Outside construction career pathways and apprenticeship information.

Construction Lineman Program

This experienced-worker pathway uses documented trade hours for wage progression. Participants record hours and receive monthly evaluations; completing the program may permit the journeyman lineman examination.

Transmission Technician

Eight levels reflect experience and skill in de-energized transmission construction and maintenance, including structures and conductors. This pathway does not qualify participants for the journeyman lineman exam or authorize energized work, including installing master grounds.

Substation Technician

Three levels cover de-energized substation construction and maintenance. This pathway does not qualify participants for the journeyman lineman exam or authorize energized work, including installing master grounds.

Equipment Operator

Small and large equipment roles include cranes, boom trucks, dozers, loaders, boring and tracked equipment, plus physical ground work. Applicable large-equipment crane work requires NCCCO certification.

Groundman

Entry-level outside work develops material, process and safety knowledge through manual tasks, digging and trenching. Classifications include first-year Groundman, experienced Groundman with CDL, and truck driver with winch and CDL.

SWLCAT and apprenticeship

Southwestern Line Constructors offers outside electrical apprenticeship training combining work experience with instruction. Use the program authority for current qualifications, training and applications.
